Douglas College "Early Summer Orientation" -- Next week!

EARLY SUMMER ORIENTATION (or “ESO”) is the first major event for all students starting classes in the Fall 2012 Semester.  It’s designed to jump start their college experience through helpful workshops on course registration, financial aid, student life, and more!  We'll also be introducing them to other students, and answering any questions they may have.  (It’s a lot of fun, too!)

This is a vital first step in being successful at Douglas College, and we expect this event to fill up quickly.  So please encourage your students to register now, if they haven't done so already!

This year’s Early Summer Orientation will be held on:
  • May 23rd at the David Lam Campus, 5:30pm – 8:30pm
  • May 24th at the New Westminster Campus, 5:30pm – 8:30pm
  • Students (and parents) are welcome to attend either session, which offer the same information
  • Additional Orientation information and registration can be found here
If you have any questions about Early Summer Orientation, or any of the services offered by the Office for New Students, please contact us.

Douglas purchases Facebook app just for new students!

Do your students play Cityville, Farmville, or Mafia Wars?  Well, now Douglas has its own Facebook app, too!  (Check out the snazzy promo video here.) Once your students have created their profile, the app instantly connects them with other new Douglas students who share the same interests.  So, before they even arrive on campus they can make new friends in our community who are into the same television shows, movies, music, sports, hobbies, and much more!

This app is exclusive to Douglas College students, and only available on Facebook   And if they join now, they'll also be entered into a draw for a brand new Apple iPad!  So please encourage your students to sign up using the instructions below, and start making their first friends on campus today!

  2. Enter your Douglas ID and PIN (if you don't have your ID number, contact the Registrar's Office)

New "Applied Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology" -- We'd love to hear from you!

Douglas College is developing an Applied Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology where students would first complete their Diploma or Associate of Arts in Criminology or related area, and would then complete the remaining third and fourth years in an area of specialization.

The applied degree blends theory and practice. Students will take foundational courses in theory and then a series of topical specialized courses in criminal justice. There will also be practicum and service learning opportunities where students will gain direct hands-on experience in chosen fields.

In developing this degree, we need a thorough understanding of the needs and interests of students. As high school counsellors, you have an important perspective that can help us to create the strongest possible offering. So, if you have students interested in taking a Criminology program, please take a moment to share your thoughts and suggestions with us!

If you would like more information about the program development process currently underway, please contact Carla Hotel at hotelc@douglas.bc.ca, or 604.527.5313.
